Flu Review - Fangs by Sarah Andersen

If you’re looking for a feel good, relatable comic strip book such as the author’s previous Sarah’s Scribbles, you may be in for a disappointment. Instead of unrelated, character pieces, this book attempts to follow a bit of a storyline - what would happen if a vampire dated a werewolf? Now, imagine a book full of dad jokes, and bad puns, and you have this book.
Bad jokes aside, I didn't feel any connection to the characters in the strip - or feel their connection to each other. The vampire and the werewolf were supposed to be a new couple, but I didn't see any of the cutesey cheesy lovey-dovey-ness like you find in some other relationship comics. Unlike the lovable characters from Sarah’s Scribbles, I found it difficult to care about these characters because they had no personalities aside from their respective conditions.
Unfortunately for me, this book fell flat. The stereotypical jokes, cliche writing, and 2 dimensional characters earned this a 1.5 star rating from me. I'm rounding up to 2, however, because the cover is gorgeous...and everyone judges a book by its cover
*Note: I seem to be in the minority in my opinion. Currently Fangs has a 4.35 rating on Goodreads. Readers are raving about the great artwork and humor of this book of comic strips. So maybe pick this up and check it out for yourself! It’s a quick 30 minute read, so you aren’t out anything!
