Flu Review - The Last Party by Cassidy Lucas

What was this book? Was it written as a drama for the CW but never got picked up because of COVID? I felt like this book was just one giant messy plot hole and I didn't understand how or why any of the plot events ever actually happened.

The Last Party was such a confusing book. I don't understand how this party actually came about. Between all the character narration changes and the actual plot of the book, everything felt muddled. Why was the old man willing to let a drifter scare away these guests? Wasn't he concerned about his or his wife's safety? Why did Dawn treat her neurodivergent daughter like a toddler but then leave her alone for hours on end? Why would you go to a party hosted by all the people you screwed over and destroyed their lives? Why were you so casual about committing an affair with your "best friend"? Is getting naked and running around a field a common thing for a birthday party, especially with a married man present? I don't get the brother revenge subplot. So many questions...and so few answers!

Overall, I found the story problematic and haphazard. I think there were more plot holes than sound plot and I was glad to be done with the book. However this book has gotten some fairly positive reviews from others, so if it sounds like an interesting concept to you, definitely check it out- I may be in the minority here.
