The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo begins with a young journalist, Monique, trying to move up in her job. One day, much to Monique surprise, the most famous woman in Hollywood, Evenly Hugo, agrees to give an interview to Monique’s magazine, but only if Monique will write the piece. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Monique readily agrees and meets Evelyn to discuss the project. However, Evelyn is not interested in a small piece about her famous dresses, but she offers Monique the chance to write Evelyn’s biography before Evelyn dies.
Evelyn Hugo recounts her life from her teenage years through her infamous Hollywood stardom until the present, focusing on how she came into fame surrounding her seven husbands. Interwoven in the story is Evelyn’s true love and how they could never reveal their love to the world. The story is lovely and heartbreaking and a truly immersive experience. If you have not yet read this book you should pick it up because you won’t want to put it down.
