Flu Review - Of Princes and Promises by Sandhya Menon

Another solid addition to the St. Rosetta's Academy series by Sandhya Menon. I really enjoy this author's work, and while this one was not exactly what I thought it was going to be going into it, I think I *may* have liked it even more than the last one in the series!

This book was a very veiled retelling of the princess and the frog. When I first heard that there was going to be another book in the series, I immediately thought that it was going to follow DE, but I was surprised when our main characters ended up being Rahul and Caterina! I absolutely loved this, however, because Caterina is SUCH a nuanced character! Unlike many main characters in romcoms, she was not a perky girl that everyone loves to love. She had rough edges and was not always the most likeable person. But her character arc and growth throughout the book was phenomenal! Loved seeing it!

Another thing that I really enjoy about this series is the magical element that seems to be woven into each book. Every time it's just obscure enough to make the reader question - was it magical or was it not? In this book it was the magical hair gel - did it really change Rahul or did it just give him confidence to show some of the strength he had all along? Mysterious to say the least, but magical? You decide!

Overall, I would recommend this book to people who enjoy modern fairytale retellings or are fans of the author's previous work.
