Miriam Bricks arrives in a small town in Wyoming in order to work as a nurse for the local doctor. She steps off the stagecoach into a pre-planned wedding, where she is meant to be the bride! Miriam is running from past secrets and is only interested in a job. But when her past catches up to her, will the good doctor help her save the day, and steal her heart?
I always enjoy a good book that deals with mental health issues, and this one did not disappoint! This historical fiction novel is set in the late 1800s, at a time when epilepsy was still considered grounds for institutionalizing individuals and committing them to insane asylums. Miriam, a talented nurse with epilepsy, is forced to escape one such asylum and seek refuge in a small town where her past is not known.
Reading accounts such as these (even fictionalized) can be very sobering - especially seeing the barbaric ways that mental illness patients were treated in the past, so be forewarned! There is nothing graphic, however mental illness and past treatments are realistically portrayed. However, if you like your historical romance clean and uplifting, with a side of sober, check out this book! I highly recommend!
