Claire is a middle school aged girl who has lost her mother. Her father is a professional ghost hunter whom she hardly ever sees. She is staying with her Aunt, a kind loving person, but still misses her parents. As the story moves us in, the plot turns frightening and she must seek the help of Lucas who is NOT her friend in order to look for her dad. She believes her mother has warned her that he is in grave danger and that she is the only one who can reach him.
This is a well-written juvenile novel with twists and turns that are unexpected. The misty atmosphere is so realistic that you can almost feel the moisture droplets in air. The story is an intense one and not for the light of heart but Ghost Hunters Daughter would make a fabulous spooky story for a Halloween read. Dan Poblocki does a wonderful job of reaching the heart of the reader. The suspense is very palpable but the emotions of each character are strong enough to go with it. The ending is somewhat unexpected and may not be entirely satisfying for some, but I found it resolved well enough that it did not leave me feeling empty. I would give it 3 out of 5 stars.
