Advocate

Advocate for the Library

Why should you advocate?

  • Elected officials don’t know everything.

  • More often than not, you know more about issues that matter to you—like libraries—than they do.

  • Elected officials need you to inform them about the importance of libraries.

  • If not you, then who?

Libraries and librarians are vital to the future of an information literate nation. Library advocates speak out for libraries. Library advocates are everywhere although they don’t always call themselves that. They are: library trustees, library users, community leaders, library staff and librarians.

Send an Email to Your Elected Officials NOW!

Advocate for Warsaw Community Public Library. Your voice matters more now than ever. Help us to continue to provide resources for literacy and learning by urging your elected officials to find a long term source of funding.

A few helpful tips:

  • Keep the tone and wording of your letters courteous and respectful

  • Reference specific examples of how you use YOUR Library.

  • Be an advocate FOR the Library, not against our local officials or government.

  • Attend meetings of the Library Board to learn from others and to express yourself about libraries.

  • Attend meetings of your City and County Councils.

Remember that your voices are the ones that matter the most. Keeping messages consistent and respectful allows us to continue advocating for Warsaw Community Public Library in a productive way that can yield vital support from our elected officials, from the City of Warsaw, the County of Kosciusko, and from the State of Indiana.
