Information Services Department

In brief, we answer all of your questions, help you with whatever you need, and we order all of the books, DVDs, magazines, etc. for teens and adults.
The Information Services Department also:

Checks all donated books and other matierals and decides if the items should be added to our collection or if they should sent to the booksale.

Weeds (removes from the collection) items that haven't been checked out for a certain length of time.

Handles all of the Interlibrary Loan requests.

Handles all of the Purchase Request suggestions.
-
Shelves all of the adult books, magazines, audiobooks, music, DVDs, etc.
-
Inventories all of the adult collections and all of the collections in the AV room.
-
Repairs books, etc. that have been damaged.
-
Registers patrons for library programs.
-
Checks outs books, etc. for patrons
-
Orders replacement CDs for damaged audiobooks.
-
Practices crowd control when needed.
-
Helps people at the Internet stations.
-
Helps people at the Word Processing stations.
-
Helps people find something good to read.
-
Helps people print, and helps people print, and often helps people print.
-
Shifts books when the shelves become too crowded. (We do this a lot - it's a good aerobic workout.)
-
Re-orders all the books, etc. that are never returned after being checked out.

Updates the website.
-
Bascially does whatever the other departments don't do.

And now Information Services is in charge of all the Adult Programming (classes, workshops, speakers, special events) as well.

We often receive at least 10 books (sometimes it seems more like 100) a week that need to be repaired. Usually the bindings have split or pages are falling out. Here, Janet repairs a children's book.
We are also in charge of 2 book displays, 1 bulletin board/book display,
1 bulletin board display, & 1 curio cabinet display.
